The brief

Connecting constituents to the people who represent them has never been more relevant.

As a new wave of MPs tweet and text their way through Whitehall, we wanted to use new technology to make politicians more accessible, and better connected to their constituents.

Version 1.0

We created the first iPhone app for MPs for Derek Wyatt MP in January 2010.

The app allowed Derek to be more transparent and to canvass opinions directly from his constituents. It also allowed users to inform their MP about issues they care about, and see what’s going on in their local area.

The app has been downloaded more than 8,000 times and 748 people have given user ratings, of which 101 are five stars. Hundreds of people have also sent us comments through the app, and the story was covered by Sky News, the Times, the Mirror, Daily Telegraph and Guardian.

Version 2.0

Following the success of Version 1.0, we launched a follow up in July, encouraging all MPs to sign up. The app has already received cross-party support from MPs including Mike Crockart, Jo Swinson, John Woodcock and Brandon Lewis. 500 people downloaded the app on the day of its release.
