The brief

The UK Data Archive holds the UK’s largest collection of digital research data in the social sciences and humanities. The Archive exists within an extensive family of related data services, and our clients wanted Public Zone’s help to reinforce the Archive’s uniqueness and importance through a new brand and website.

Our architecture and design for the new website reflects the Archive’s cyclical process for handling data. Crucially, the site promotes the need for data management, sharing and professional archiving to new audiences.

Our approach

We developed ‘Our Look and Voice’, a set of guidelines introducing a bold new logo and containing narrative guidelines to help explain the client’s work. The guidelines also advise how the brand can be used consistently when combined with brands of other organisations.

The result

The new brand was launched at the UK Data Archive’s Open Day in June 2010 and rolled out across the campus and in official documents, to a great reception from staff and students.
